Wayland Free Public Library

The Wayland Free Public Library web site features a large image-rich ad on its home page. This ad changes each time someone opens or refreshes the home page, so that at any given time in the library, several of the dozen or so of the library's key messages are displayed on the library's computers, big and bold, and readable from ten to twenty feet away.

Architectural elements from the building were used in the design of the web site to help extend the message of welcome and of the quality of the library itself.

An EventKeeper feed keeps upcoming events current on the home page. A similar feed keeps parents informed about upcoming children's events at the library on the children's pages.

Links to the library's catalog, to the patron's account information, to downloadable audio books, to online databases of magazine and journal articles, and to local town information (and more) are all available from the home page.

The site is designed with web standards and usability in mind. The formatting, including layout, is controlled through the use of cascading style sheets. Strict attention has been paid to creating visual styles that reflect the information hierarchy.
